Corinthians SP came from behind to draw 1-1 with Vitória BA in Brasileirão - Série A. Vitória led at half-time, and the hosts needed a second-half penalty to take a share of the points.

Match Summary

The first half produced no goal until its closing minute. In the 45th minute Carlos Renê de Sousa Ferreira scored for Vitória. The away side went into the interval in front, and Corinthians had a deficit to repair.

The second half began with the home side chasing. Carlos Renê de Sousa Ferreira received a yellow card in the 53rd minute. André was booked for Corinthians in the 62nd minute. The equalizer arrived soon after that caution. Yuri Alberto scored a penalty for Corinthians in the 66th minute, and the scoreline moved to 1-1.

Corinthians kept attacking after the penalty but they could not find a second goal. Vitória did not add to their tally either. The remainder of the match stayed at 1-1. Savio Pereira Sampaio refereed a contest that ended without a red card at Neo Quimica Arena.

Key Moments

Trailing at the break mattered because it forced Corinthians to open the game. They now had to risk more to avoid defeat, which set up the more open spell in which the penalty arrived.

That penalty was the swing that saved the home point. Yuri Alberto's conversion did not win the match, but it cancelled the only goal Vitória scored and stopped the visitors from leaving with three points from a night of very few attempts.

The cautions for Carlos Renê de Sousa Ferreira and André never grew into a sending-off. Both teams finished with 11 players, so Vitória could defend the draw without a numerical disadvantage.

Match Statistics

Corinthians dominated the counting stats and still only drew. They had 69 percent of possession, 17 shots, 5 shots on target, 1.51 expected goals, and 9 corners. Vitória had 31 percent possession, 4 shots, 4 shots on target, 0.83 expected goals, and 1 corner. The visitors matched the hosts on target despite a large gap in attempts, which is how a 1-1 result held to the whistle.
